The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN) and is charged with ensuring international peace and security, recommending the admission of new UN members to the General Assembly, and approving any changes to the UN Charter. With 15 Members, and one vote dedicated to every single member, under the Charter of the United Nations calls upon the parties to a dispute to settle it by peaceful means and recommends methods of adjustment or terms of settlement. In some cases, the Security Council can resort to imposing sanctions or even authorize the use of force to maintain or restore international peace and security. The UNSC is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions on member states.

In our conference, UNSC will study promoting and supporting a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Ukraine. Since its beginning in 2014 with the annexation of Crimea, this border dispute had led to many casualties on the combatant sides, as well as from the Ukrainian citizens to international legions who volunteered to defend Ukraine against Russian Federation’s special operation/ invasion. Although the UN has been working on the issue since its very beginning in 2014, today, the dispute can be best described as a knot with the start of special operation over Ukraine by the 24 February 2022. Having witnessed this year that it is still possible to encounter full-scale international wars; it is time to revisit this old knot and facilitate the power of diplomacy to untie it within peaceful and determined international decisions.
